About Us

Is your school associated with a church?

Yes, ALCA is a department of Abundant Life Church, and is housed on ALC premises. Attendance at ALC is NOT required for admission to the school.

Is ALCA accredited?

We expect to be fully accredited by the International Christian Accrediting Association before the start of the Fall ’24 term.

Why is the curriculum so heavy on history?

History is central to classical education, and it provides the outline to which all other subjects are keyed. We study Western history, art, and literature deeply and carefully because in doing so, we study the cultures that formed our own. The histories of classical Greece and Rome are foundational to Western society, and much of our modern world still owes its genesis to these cultures. Study of the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Modern Times build on the classical foundations, tracing the thread of Western Civilization through to today.

Because history is a complex and wide-ranging topic, students study it in three cycles at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, with increasing depth at each level. This model allows children to become deeply versed in the ideas of the greatest thinkers, writers, and artists in Western history, and in the history and development of those ideas over time.

What if my child is older and has not had a classical education? Will it be too difficult for them to transition?

No. Though there is an adjustment period for an older student transitioning to the classical model of education, based on the difference in both material and instructional methods, students generally transition very well, with some work. Furthermore, we are committed to guiding students through this process. Our small class sizes allow personal attention, extra help when needed, and even personalized courses of study, when necessary.

Who is classical education for?

The classical Christian model of education is for everyone, regardless of background or ability. The classical model is simply the best way to educate children, no matter their natural abilities. At ALCA, we are committed to making classical education accessible to everyone.

Are math and science taken seriously?

Although much of the discussion around classical education centers on its focus on history, literature, and language, math and science are not ignored. Just the opposite; the classical model of education is better suited to instruction in both math and science. Because classical education prioritizes mastery of material, classically trained students often emerge much better prepared in both areas.
